Friday, Sept 6: Tobias Wolff, author of ‘This Boy’s Life’ (which was later adapted into a successful major motion picture) and ‘Old School’ (which was chosen as this year’s ‘common read’ at Sierra Nevada College), was featured speaker kicking of this year’s Writers in the Woods Speaker Series. He charmed those in attendance with stories of his influences as a writer, and well as the useful advice he offered to any future writers. Come and enjoy future presentations in the Writers in the Woods Speakers Series (this year’s lineup is below). They are sure to be of interest to students, educators, as well as the surrounding SNC community!

On Thursday, Aug. 22, Sierra Nevada College, in conjunction with UC Davis, will host Dr. Sally Rogers, from UC Davis MIND Institute, as she presents the latest research on the effects of intervention on young children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Educators, specialists, and anyone affected by the prevalence of ASD in young children are likely to find this presentation of interest. This event is open to the public with a $5 suggested donation.

Last Tuesday, May 7th, the Department of Teacher Education at Sierra Nevada College was pleased to host its New Student Orientation in order to welcome its new incoming Master of Arts in Teaching students. Freeman Holbrook, SNC Alum and Teacher Education Graduate Program Instructor shared his award winning M.Ed. Action Plan “Site Based Funding”.
Freeman’s project resulted in a statewide initiative used to restructure school funding in Nevada! Freeman was recently selected by Governor Sandoval to serve as a member of the Nevada State Board of Education. SNC congratulates Freeman whose Active Learning Scholarship is making a difference in Nevada and beyond! Way to go, Freeman! Check out pictures of the event below.
