Sierra Nevada College’s Poetry Center, located within Prim Library, is now open thanks to a grant awarded by the Nevada State Library and Archives and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. With the help of both the grant as well as two genereous donors, the Poetry Center contains over 4000 volumes of poetry, and is planning on hosting numerous events open to both students and the general public. According to Dr. Elizabeth Markle, Prim Library Director and founder of the Poetry Center, “We want to engage the community in poetry. We’d like to be able to do workshops in schools periodically, using students or poets who are brought in. We would like poetry writing workshops. We hope to bring in poets for readings.” Further information about the Poetry Center can be found here. For upcoming events, make sure to to look at the center’s Facebook page.
